In his series titled Ghost Underground, Italian contemporary artist Livio Scarpella creates amazing marble sculptures that depict ghostly busts of people in deep feelings of sadness. Each piece is intricately covered with translucent veils and crystals of amethyst or quartz stuck in their chest. They are directly inspired by neoclassical works of the 18th century in the Cappella Sansevero, in Naples; or more precisely, the marble sculpture Veiled Christ made by Giuseppe Sanmartino (1720–1793), in 1753.
